Android User Interface Design

If you are thinking to design or learn Android Interface design then read this article very carefully before starting, because application interface defines the visual structure for a user interface. We provide you an overview that how your design fit into the Android devices screen where resolutions are different.

Splash Sizes:

• LDPI:
• Portrait: 200x320px
• Landscape: 320x200px
• MDPI:
• Portrait: 320x480px
• Landscape: 480x320px
• HDPI:
• Portrait: 480x800px
• Landscape: 800x480px
• XHDPI:
• Portrait: 720px1280px
• Landscape: 1280x720px

Icon Sizes:

• 96px (xhdpi)
• 72px (hdpi)
• 48px (mdpi)
• 36px (ldpi)
• 512x512 pixel - only used in Android Market

Keep it in your mind that screen sizes matter the content visibility, so we recommend using paper pencil to make an outline of your application that how content will visible on all screen resolution and the important things always will be visible or accessible once application will launch.

We recommend using Photoshop to manage all resolution design from a single file instead of creating separate file for them.

 See steps below:

Step 1: Create 720x1280 size document
Step 2: Always use shape tools to create any design elements to avoid pixilation on resizing *.psd documents.
Step 3: Use 96x96 sizes icons
Step 4: Create all pages design in separate folders [specify the page name]
Step 5: Once your management/client approves your design, just resize the *.PSD file in different required resolution.
Step 6: Export all graphical elements in *.PNG format. But reminding you that all icons sizes should be same as mentioned above.
 Step 7: If possible, try to use same images for both [Portrait & Landscape] view to keep minimum size of your application.
